![]() . Bob wrote ... I worked at The Tama State Bank around 1960 where Mr. Kubicek was the treasurer. While in High School Don was one of my very best friends and it is with great sorrow that I respond. One nite Don had the family car and was not supposed to be doing much driving but as kids are we were out doing something and hit a skunk - it was rainy so every so often we stopped to smell and see if the aroma was gone - finally we thought it was and Don took me home. He then went home and put the car in the garage only to have the furnace turn on and dry out the car and all the smell was back - oops. Needless to say, we never got the car again. Life is made of memories and fantasies - this is one of the best memories I have of High School and Don - a great friend. Bob Hunnicutt 34143 SE Elm St. Scappoose, Oregon, 97056 503-543-2458 |

![]() . In 1954 it was Carol Ann - Don - Gary. In 1955 it was Don - Gary - Carol Ann In 1956 it was still Don - Gary - Carol Ann They were pals from Kindergarten and it has been rumored that they practiced together more than a 'million' times ... that's a lot..!! Carol Ann Wrote ... This is such sad news about Don and his wife. He should have been able to live long and reap praise for all the good works he did and get to see how he had helped so many. I spent many an hour with Don in our K-12 years at school. He, Gary and I must have spent a billion hours in practice for band and trio performances, have very good memories of those days. ![]() . Mary Lou’s picture is from the 1956 All State Quartet and Don’s is from the Upperclassmen Mixed Quartet..!! Mary Lou wrote ... My heart goes out to the families of Don upon the loss of their dear family members. During our Junior and Senior years Don and I were active in 'speech'. Preparing for speech contests required weeks of hard work but it eventually paid off in that Don and I were the only two from our class who went to State. Various Clubs around town had us perform ... it was a 'big deal' for us. Don worked hard and excelled not only in speech but also in band, trumpet trio, dramatic arts and in the classroom. I believe he achieved a number one rating at State in speech and band along with being on the Honor Roll and the National Honor Society. Our class members looked up to him for his wisdom and his death leaves a sad cloud that will be remembered by the class of 1956 forever. The passing of Don and his wife is our loss but Heaven's gain. ![]() . Bob Turner wrote ... I remember Don as one of my early playmates. As a "country kid", it was a treat to come to town and spend the day with a playmate. I'm sure it was as big a treat for him to come to the "farm" and wander through the timber, feed the critters and help with the chores. Like many in the Class of 56, we went to school together from kindergarten through high school. His interests in math and chemistry surely led to his carreer choice as a researcher for Phillips Petroleum. It was a shock to learn of the untimely death of Don and his wife. I remember him fondly and hope that his family can be comforted by the many good memories they and many others have of Don. Bob & Madonna (Spickert) Turner 4530 Old Stage Rd.
