Press Release: New Arts Organization Sponsors First Show It will be a landmark event for Houstonians, as ArtView launches a visual arts show in the Downtown Historical District in early August. ArtView will make its debut into the Houston art community with a three-day event beginning on Friday, August 9. The show, entitled “First View,” will offer a wonderful collection of contemporary drawings, paintings, photography and ceramics. This new non-profit organization is dedicated to finding and introducing “undiscovered” artistic talent to the public and showcasing mid-career artists. ArtView’s Houston events will also draw from local arts organizations. “First View” will include Prismacolor pencil drawings by Hal Pluche, pointillism-style paintings by Marlo Saucedo, black & white photography by Frazier King and by Walt Bistline, and colorful ceramic works by a local artist. A special reception will be held on Saturday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. for patrons to meet the artists and to enjoy the performance of a very talented musician from University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. ArtView’s Executive Director Geneva Holland says, “I have been an ‘artist wanna-be’ all my life — I see the beauty of lines, color and movement in everything around me. For years, I was frustrated that while I could envision it, feel it and talk about it, I couldn’t make art with my own hands. Then I realized that I could make a meaningful contribution by promoting the work of my artistic friends. That is what ArtView is all about. If we bring even one talented but undiscovered artist to the public eye, we will have succeeded. If we manage to bring many talented artists into view, it will be a dream-come-true for everyone involved.” Rather than having a permanent gallery, ArtView intends to stage its special events in historic buildings, particularly in downtown and near-town Houston, bringing inner-city neighbors out and outer-city people back into older neighborhoods that are being revitalized. “First View” will be a weekend event held August 9–11 at 214 Travis in Downtown Houston. Show times are Friday 4:00-9:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00-9:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00-6:00 p.m. For more information, please call (713) 228-2883 or visit ArtView’s web site at www.artviewtexas.com. ArtView is a Texas non-profit corporation formed in 2002 for the purpose of promoting the visual arts. ## |
